In a strong show of climate commitment on World Environment Day 2025, Sanathan Textiles Limited—one of India’s leading yarn manufacturers—launched a ‘Plastic-to-Plant’ Exchange Drive in partnership with sustainability platform Sila. The two-day campaign, hosted across Mumbai and Silvassa, successfully mobilised citizen participation in circularity by encouraging individuals to exchange plastic waste for plant saplings.
The initiative invited “green champions” from local communities to deposit a minimum of 200 grams of plastic waste in return for a sapling. The outcome was impressive: over 2,500 saplings distributed and 500 kilograms of plastic diverted from landfills. Each plant is expected to absorb up to 750 grams of CO₂ daily, amounting to an estimated 274 kilograms annually—creating thousands of micro green zones across urban homes and offices.
Commenting on the impact, Sammir D. Dattani, Executive Director of Sanathan Textiles, said:
“Sustainability is about internal transformation and collective action. This initiative resonates with this year’s World Environment Day theme—‘Our Land. Our Future.’—by engaging citizens in climate-positive practices that are both simple and scalable.”
The initiative earned support from local authorities, with Mr. Anaji Mane of the BMC noting that community-led environmental action is critical to Mumbai’s climate resilience. “Every sapling and every gram of plastic saved brings us closer to a greener, more conscious city,” he said.
This program is part of Sanathan Textiles’ broader dual strategy—pioneering sustainable production while driving community engagement. Its product line ‘Sanathan Reviro’ uses 90% less water, 60% less energy, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 26%.
With over two decades of leadership, Sanathan is known for its extensive yarn portfolio—including Polyester Filament Yarns, Cotton Yarns, and Technical Textiles—serving sectors from fashion to automotive and defence. Its Silvassa facility caters to both domestic and global markets, while a new Greenfield plant in Punjab is set to boost production capacity in North India with cutting-edge automation and sustainability technologies.
With 7,000 customers, 400+ distributors, and exports to 27 countries, Sanathan continues to align business growth with environmental responsibility—setting a benchmark for industry-led climate action.
